Inkjet Cartridges

There are many Inkjet Cartridges for printers.  There is also the quality aspect to be considered when purchasing inkjet cartridges.  You may want to purchase new units or look into refillable ink cartridges.

Where to Start

The best place to start is to assess your consumable needs before purchasing your hardware.  Some printers for example come with full sized ink cartridges can be more expensive than the printer itself.  Others come with a cut down set of cartridges making the initial purchase of the hardware more expensive.

A lot of lower end printers cost less to replace than the cartridge and drum so consider this when making your initial purchase.  If you have already purchased your hardware then you will need the make and model handy when searching for a suitable supply of inkjet cartridges.  You may also want to make sure that you have the latest version of the hardware drivers installed as this may address any shortcomings when it comes to print quality.

Cost versus Quality

Next consider what your main use is.  You may be using your equipment for draft printing only in which case it will influence the purchase price and quality of the ink cartridge you end up purchasing.  Cost effectiveness is a major consideration for larger companies whose usage is extremely high.

Some things to consider are:

  • Are refillable ink cartridges suitable and how much will they actually save you?
  • Does your supplier pick up and deliver the refilled cartridges or do you need to supply a staff member to drop off and collect the containers?
  • What is the turnaround time?
  • Do you need to regularly pay for new containers after a certain number of refills?
  • Will the supplier provide a sample of the ink if it is not a proprietary brand?
  • Will a refill suit your brand of printer?

Some manuacturers may advise against using refillable cartridges with their printers so make sure that you check that is will not void any warranties if you choose to go down this route.
